New Town

Care After a Hair Transplant
Patients are relieved to know that they can carry on with their daily activities immediately after the procedure. Once they have healed post-surgery, there are no limitations in terms of physical activities. Thus, it is not necessary to take a few weeks off from work or school for recovery. In fact, the transplanted grafts are protected by surrounding hairs which start growing inside 4-6 months after surgery. It takes 2 weeks to return to all of one's regular activities and fully feel comfortable again. For some people, such as gym goers and contact sports enthusiasts, the stitches need to be removed before returning to their usual activities. While taking a shower is not prohibited after surgery, patients are recommended to avoid excess wetting of the suture line until the stitches have been removed.
You should refrain from getting sunburnt and exposing the transplanted grafts to strong wind, which can cause the transplanted grafts to fall off. Keeping the area clean is also very important. Only water should be used to cleanse the recipient site as using soap or shampoo might lead to dryness of that area. While swimming is allowed after surgery, patients are recommended to avoid submerging their heads in chlorinated water for an extended period of time.
Finally, it is important to know that the transplanted grafts are living tissue and they are sluggish in terms of growth compared with other parts of one's head.
