Hair Transplantation: FUSS Or FUE?

We are extra conscious about ourselves when we interact with different kinds of people, especially the ones who interact with you, face-to-face, for the first time. We are always driven by the natural instinct of making a good impression upon others. However, it is disrupted by major factors which bring our confidence level down, hair loss being one such problem. Hair loss can be a cause of concern for many as the occasional teasing from friends and colleagues can bring down your confidence level drastically. A hair transplantation helps in regaining your lost hair and makes sure that you are reborn with a new freshness and confidence. Be it due to stress, genetics, age or any other reason, baldness can be a major issue for many. This is the reason why a hair transplantation can save your day. It gives you fuller-looking hair and also boosts your self-esteem. Be it a date or a family gathering, you do not have to think so much over attending them anymore. What is hair transplantation? Hair transplantation refers to the surgical procedure of moving hair from one place to another. It is basically a procedure where the hair you already have is moved to an area of your body where there is little or no hair. The area from where hair is extracted is called the ‘donor’ area and to where it is moved is known as the ‘recipient’ area. The procedures are painful indeed, but they are definitely worth it. There are two methods of carrying out a hair transplantation – FUSS and FUE, which are, Follicular Unit Strip Surgery and Follicular Unit Extraction respectively. However, before carrying out the procedure, firstly, your scalp is thoroughly cleaned by the surgeon and medicine is injected in the back of your head to bring numbness. What are the different procedures? When it comes to the different hair transplantation procedure, there are two of them, namely the FUSS (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery) and the FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction) method. 1. FUSS (Follicular Unit Strip Surgery): The procedure is carried out in the following two steps –  A 6 to 10 inch strip of hair and tissue is removed from the back of your head as it is naturally resistant to balding  The strip of skin is divided into hundreds or thousands of tiny grafts which consist of strands of hair.  It is then placed on the balding area of the patient Things to note:  It is invasive  Leaves a linear scar in the back of your hair so you can’t keep short hair  The recovery time is longer  The complication rates are high  Usable donor hair is decreased and affects future procedures 2. FUE (Follicular Unit Extraction):  The new hairline design is marked  The doctor extracts hair follicles from the back of your head, which is done in one or multiple sessions  These hair follicles are then prepared into grafts  Holes are made in the bald spot  Each graft is placed carefully in each hole  The scalp is bandaged and left to heal Things to note:  Complication rates are less  Short hair can be kept as there is no scarring  More grafts can be harvested for future procedures  Recovery time is shorter  Proven to be the best facial hair restoration technique  High success rate with guaranteed long lasting results  Hair fall chances out of genetic factors or hormonal imbalances are very low Instructions for the patient to follow after operation:  To refrain from itching scalp  For some time, no head massage should be involved  The scalp should not be exposed to direct sunlight  After operation, no hair wash should be carried out for 24 hours  Smoking and drinking should be avoided  Scalp should not be touched for near about two weeks after the procedure To conclude it all After the overall analysis of FUSS and FUE, it can be said that FUE is more efficient and effective as well as less painful. FUE does not have side effects and is in fact, the best procedure for facial hair restoration. However, there are instructions which need to be followed after the operation for successful recovery.
